Topic: Squatting Problems
Projection of Habitat for Humanity Philippines by 2005, the country’s population would be around 86 million with almost 65% of that would be found in urban areas. This trend will leave many urban families in need of shelter. It is estimated that in Metro Manila alone over 50% of its population are categorized as informal settlers-families who build shanties and makeshift structures along rivers, railways, bridges, open spaces, government lands, dump sites, and even along thoroughfares.
I think there must a policy to address in-migration in urban centers that caused this problem among others. Rural areas should be spurred economically to encourage the people to stay or to go back for those in urban centers.
